While it is important to understand what Medicare covers, it is equally important to understand what it does not. Some of the items and services that Medicare does not cover include:
– Most dental care
– Eye examinations related to prescribing glasses
– Dentures
– Cosmetic surgery
– Acupuncture
– Hearing aids and exams for fitting them
– Long-term care
– Prescription drugs
You are responsible for paying the Part B deductible each year. After which you typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for these:
– Most doctor services (including most doctor services while you’re a hospital inpatient)
– Outpatient therapy
– Durable Medical Equipment
You are also responsible for paying the Part A deductible for each benefit period. A benefit period A begins the day you go into a hospital or Skilled Nursing Facility. It ends when you haven’t received any inpatient hospital care (or Skilled Care in an SNF) for 60 days in a row.
